I would like to begin this blog post with an important disclaimer. I have an enormous amount of respect for police officers. The police risk their safety, health, as well as their own lives every day to keep us safe against those who would do us harm. Unfortunately, however, sometimes those who would do us harm are the police officers themselves. The proportion of corrupt and violent officers may be minor in perspective but the consequences are real and detrimental to all.

Creating a Video: LGBT Online Dating

I have created a video examining why and how the LGBT+ community use dating sites and apps. I discuss both the strengths and limitations of same-sex dating media and conclude that they are mostly a positive force, because they allow for self-expression. I wanted this video to be informative but not too serious, so I used upbeat music for my opening sequence and added casual, anecdotal elements. You can watch the full video below.

Performativity and Me: How I Present Myself on Social Media

It’s difficult to pinpoint my exact online identity because personality takes different forms depending on which social media site I’m using. I imagine it like all elements of my online persona are spread across different sites, and all have to be taken into account to get a full understanding. For instance, if you only look at my Twitter profile (amy_thompson97), you could find out a little about me, but you wouldn’t get the full picture. To get a better grasp on how my online personality is varied across social media, I’ve made a Prezi that goes through various social media platforms and how my self-presentation may differ across these platforms.

Maisie Williams: Best Young Actress


“Best Young Actress” is a pretty bold statement to make, but I’m prepared to back it up. For those who don’t know her, Maisie Williams, 19, is a British actress best known for her role as Arya Stark in HBO’S Game of Thrones. Other than Thrones, she has appeared in a number of indie films, Doctor Who and has just joined the X-Men family as well.

Maisie’s talent as an actress has not gone unnoticed. She’s won a handful of awards and was even nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2016 at such a young age. The reason I believe Maisie is so wonderful, however, goes beyond her acting abilities. It’s the dedication to her craft as well as her humanitarian and environmental activism that makes her stand out in the crowd.Read More »
